UNTAMED is now a national bestseller. Thanks to the readers buying it from the bookshelves across the country—and to all of the supporters, reviewers, and thousands of folks who have showed up at book fairs and speaking events. The groundswell of support has far surpassed my wildest hopes.

There is a rising tide of public interest in Cumberland, and it’s […]

Great review from The Washington Post

I am thrilled by the review of UNTAMED that just appeared in The Washington Post.  It was WaPo that published Carol’s powerful, persuasive Cumberland Island editorial over thirty years ago. Her editorial ended up on the president’s desk and eventually led to a federally designated wilderness area for Cumberland Island. It’s exciting that The Washington Post is now highlighting […]

The Wall Street Journal reviews UNTAMED

While perhaps overshadowed by the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal has a top-notch literary review section, and they recently published a great review of UNTAMED. I am thrilled that author Max Watman wrote the review; he is one of my favorite writers. The review focuses on the class war and turf war at the heart of the […]

Amazon’s Best Books of the Month

Amazon has named Untamed as one of its best books of the month for May 2014 in their biography/memoir category. It’s pretty cool to see Carol Ruckdeschel right next to Michael Jordan in their best biographies section. I think MJ would dig Carol. Carol Ruckdeschel isn’t your typical role model: the roadkill eatin’, pistol totin’, whiskey […]

Best story ever

Karen Chavez’s recent feature in the Asheville Citizen-Times beautifully captures the essence of Carol and the book. And she makes me sound way cooler than I actually am. Best of all, our family, our dog, and even our goats got their pictures in the paper. Check it out here.

The W Word

The W Word

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act—the first law ever to give nature priority over people. It defines wilderness as “an area where the earth and its community of life are untrammeled by man . . . an area of undeveloped land retaining its primeval character.”

Fifty years since Lyndon B. Johnson signed the […]
